              The essay titled, “Sapay Koma” written by Jhoanna Lynn B. Cruz (UPMin Prof., Humanities Dept., CHSS) was adjudged winner of the Third Prize in the Essay Category of the 58th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. This was announced by Rosendo A. Bautista, Deputy Director of the Carlos Palanca Foundation.

     The Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature is the Philippines' most prestigious and most enduring literary awards.

 

  

Prof. Cruz Daliling has previously won a Palanca award in 1999, for the full-length play, "Halakata, MS.D" which was awarded second prize. She is a graduate of the De La Salle University and has taught in DLSU and the University of the Cordilleras before she joined UPMindanao. Her winning essay will be published in a book that will be available in October.
 
     The Palanca Awards Night will be held on Sept. 1, 2008 at The Peninsula Manila.
