Twenty-two public high school teachers from Compostela Valley recently
completed a 15-day Enhancement Program in English Language Proficiency
in UP Mindanao . The Program is part of Compostela Valley Governor
Arturo Uy’s education program called A-STEP, or Advance Study for
Teachers’ Enhancement Program, implemented in partnership with the
DepEd-Division of Compostela Valley through Assistant Division
Superintendent, Dr. Antonio de los Reyes.
The Enhancement
Program, held from May 5-19, was conducted by the Dept. of Humanities
under the supervision of Dean Ma. Araceli Dans Lee, and led by Dept.
Chairman Prof. Antonino de Veyra, and Training Coordinator Prof. Jhoana
Lynn Daliling. All resource persons and facilitators were from the said
department, while support services were provided by the Office of
Extension and Community Service. Aside from language proficiency, the
participants were also challenged to come up with their own teaching
materials in innovative and creative ways.
According
to Governor Uy, the trained English teachers are expected to echo their
lessons and train other English teachers back in Compostela Valley
province. The Governor said that communication using the English
language is the global standard, and that public high schools in
Compostela Valley can become globally competitive while being
responsive to local English learning needs. (UPMin PIO)
