The Department of Social Sciences (DSS), in collaboration with the Organization for Visual Progression (OVP) based in New York USA, is currently conducting an Intensive Visual Media Training that started last 27 April until 10 May 2009. The training is designed to provide the participants with basic and advanced skills in visual documentation that address social issues and problems. Hands-on experience with video cameras and film editing software (Final Cut Pro) are some of the highlights of the training. This training is part of DSS' AnthropologySummer FieldSchool. The theme for this year's Summer FieldSchool is Urban Anthropology with Barangays 23-C and Lasang, DavaoCity as field areas. Together with 9 incoming senior BA Anthropology students, the participants have had their production at Brgy. 23-C to visually document social issues particularly food security, sanitation, women development and inter-ethnic relationship in the area. A public screening will be held at Isla Verde, Brgy. 23-C after the participants are done with their post-production and finalized their project.Iben Trino-Molenkamp and Benjamin Ray Foley, co-directors of OVP, spearhead the said training by sharing their expertise and experiences in promoting social justice through the use of visual media.
