In September 2003, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the UP Press Bookstore initiated the “Read UP” campaign project.  The objective of the project is to instill in the Filipino students the passion for reading and active participation in developing Philippine Literature.  With the success of the project, the two (2) offices decided to install satellite bookstores in UP in Mindanao, UP Baguio and UP Iloilo.

With the support of UP in Mindanao’s Office of the Chancellor, the first branch of UP Press Bookstore was opened in Terraza Milesa Building, School of Management on December 16, 2003.  The UP Press Bookstore Davao had an initial inventory of 809 volumes.

On August 6, 2004, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Maria Serena I. Diokno, and UP in Mindanao Chancellor, Prof. Ricardo M. de Ungria.  The MOA mandated the UP Press Bookstore Davao to link scholars, writers and experts of the UP System.  With the MOA, the bookstore became the official distribution outlet of all publications of the UP Press Bookstore in UP Diliman.
