Representatives from the Davao Association of Catholic Schools and UP Mindanao agreed to cooperate in the field of hosting sports events, upgrading coach capabilities, and research, in a meeting held on May 22, 2025, in UP Mindanao and the Davao City-UP Sports Complex.
Mr. Jimmy Dela Vega, executive director of the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS), and Coach Noli Ayo of the Lyceum of the Philippines University-Davao and Phil. Sports Commission coordinator, met with UP Mindanao Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao and Assistant Prof. Jezreel Abarca, chairperson of the UP Mindanao Department of Human Kinetics (DHK), to consider avenues by which UP Mindanao could help to improve the DACS’ sports activities.
In a subsequent meeting with DHK faculty members, the DHK suggested a document by which DACS could specify the desired needs or outcomes to which DHK could respond or address. The parties agreed that this document could serve as an agreement between DACS and UP Mindanao.
Director Dela Vega conveyed DACS’ vision for sports as an ideal channel for youth development. He stated DACS’ need for sports events hosting and its current focus towards improving the coaching capabilities of its smaller member schools.
Department Chair. Abarca and Coach Ayo also discussed pending proposals with the Philippine Sports Commission under Director Richard Bachmann and the needed appropriate actions.
