Davao City has officially claimed the third spot among the Philippines’ top startup ecosystems, moving up from its previous fourth-place ranking in 2024. Asst. Prof. Miguel Carlo Guillermo of the UP Mindanao Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, reported this in his capacity as Coordinator of the UPMin Technology Transfer and Business Development Office and IDEAS Davao Project Leader.
IDEAS Davao reported that in the 2025 Global Startup Ecosystem Report by StartupBlink global startup research platform, Davao is the only Philippine city to have improved its national position and now boasts the highest national ecosystem growth rate at 97%. Globally, the city jumped an impressive 163 spots, securing its new position as the 580th best startup ecosystem in the world.
IDEAS Davao, or the Innovation and Development Accelerators Consortium for Startups in the Davao Region, is a consortium initiated in 2021 by UP Mindanao and the DOST-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD). It is committed to driving innovation from the grassroots level to transform the Davao Region into a leading innovation hub by producing startup business ventures through collaboration, networking, and promotion of value-generating products and services. With stakeholders from LGUs, government agencies, the private sector, and higher education institutions, IDEAS Davao has assisted in the development of over 150 startups in the region, overseen by multiple technology and business incubators.
In 2024, IDEAS Davao was a recipient of the Presidential Award for Outstanding Development Partner in Technology and Innovation Access. The third edition of its Davao Startup Week in September 2024 had seven main events and 17 pre-events involving 30-plus Mindanao startups.
