Student-athletes from the Department of Human Kinetics bagged several awards in different competitions during the 2023 Kadayawan Festival.

Glenn John Malisa, Jonathan Ryle Mata, and Khim Nyle Ubal won gold medals in the senior advance categories during the 38th Kadayawan Festival: Invitational Arnis Kali Eskrima Tournament held last August 19-20 at the UP Mindanao- Davao City Sports Complex. Kaye Louren Famulagan and June Flloyd Zabala won silver and bronze awards, respectively. (See more: Arnis)

Meanwhile, Associate in Arts in Sports Science student dancers triumphed at the SAYAW: Kadayawan 2023 Interschool Dance Festival and Dance Sports Competition last August 22 at the Philippine Women’s College of Davao. 

Aisha Manansala and Rainanne Abalos were champions in the duo modern standard tertiary category while also winning first and second place in the solo modern tertiary category. Moreover, Karisse Arellano and David Bentulan also emerged as champions in the couple Latin beginner tertiary category while also winning 3rd place in the couple Latin regular category, with both student dancers bagging first and second place awards in the solo Latin tertiary category. The Center for the Advancement of Research in Mindanao (CARIM) through the Office of Research (OR) held the first session of their CARIM ShopTalks webinar series on 8 June 2023 via Facebook Live and Zoom. UP Mindanao and Ateneo Zamboanga-Mindanao Institute partnered on the first webinar session on "Technical Translation for Research."  UPMin faculty members Asst. Prof. Janus Cabazares (Dept. of Social Sciences) and Sr. Lecturer Dr. Jayson Ibañez (Dept. of Biological Science & Environmental Studies) along with Ateneo Zamboanga Exec. Director Floraime Pantaleta shared their experiences in conducting research and advocacy work. Prof. Cabazares discussed "From Technical Translation to Language Intellectualization of Filipino and Other Philippine Languages." Dr. Ibañez spoke on "Modern Meets the Indigenous: Integrated Knowledge Translation and The Philippine Eagle Conservation Case." Director Pantaleta presented "Translation as Prelude, Practice, and Provocation."
